Answer
Address Verification Service (AVS) is a fraud-prevention service that verifies whether the billing address provided in a transaction matches the billing address on file with the card-issuing bank.
AVS can be enabled at different verification levels, such as matching the numeric portion of the street address, the ZIP/postal code, or requiring both to match before a transaction is approved.
