Edge Box Auto Setup

The document is intended to introduce the new feature of Edge Box, automatic configuration, which enables users to easily configure their Edge Box automatically.

Scope and Limitation

Edge Box now supports auto-configuration. To support the new feature, please update the reader, VC Touch, and Edge Box to the new version. The version needed is as follows:

Reader Version Requirement: [UltraVX][GLOBAL][V2100.002.008.015] and above

VC Touch Version Requirement: 2.4.0.6 and above

Edge Box Version Requirement: 2.0.1 and above

Edge Box TMS Update

If you need to update the Edge Box first, please follow the steps below to upgrade remotely.

Note: To realize a remote upgrade, the version of Edge Box should be 1.1.1 or above.

  1. Log in to KioCentral. Click “Locations” to search for your location. Then click the “View” button.

  1. Tap “Room” and click “View” to see the Edge Box’s SN in the room.

  1. Scroll down to the “On Premise Server” section, and get the ULID of the Edge Box. Remember the last 16 digits as the SN for the Edge Box.

    Taking the screenshot below as an example, the SN of the Box is 000008RM955KRVW7.

  1. Log in to TMS, and click Present Config → Search Present Conf.

  1. Select the Group as EdgeBox, enter the serial number of the Edge Box obtained from KioCentral, and press “Search.”

  1. Click “Edit”.

  1. Input the required Reference Number for upgrade, and click “Save” after changes.

  1. Wait for the automatic NMS detection time to detect the RN, and then upgrade automatically. Or you can also reboot the Edge Box, and wait for 5-10 minutes to auto upgrade.

    During the upgrade, the transactions of cloud based card will not be affected.

Edge Box Auto Configuration via Server

Install new Edge Box

If there was no Edge Box in this room before, and you want to install a new Edge Box, please follow the steps below.

  1. Install the Edge Box, power it on, and connect it to the network.

  2. Set it up in the Vendor Portal

  • Log in to the vendor portal → Locations, search for the target location, and click on the Edit button.

  • Click the "Option" tab and scroll down until you find the "Other" section. Then:

  1. Select "Enable" for "On-Premise Server";

  2. Fill in the three mandatory fields (Network Downtime, Server IP Address, and Server Port) based on what is needed and the location’s server information.

Server IP Address: If needed, please refer to the document KioSoft Edge Box Setup and Upgrade Guide to get the IP.

Server Port: For Elevate Card Connect (CRCS), input 16000. For VC and Ultra, its Server Port is set to 443 by default. If all of them are included in the location, input 16000.

  • Click on the "Save" button.

  1. Then, the Edge Box will perform the auto configuration.

  2. About 5 to 10 minutes later, after a successful auto setup, the Room View will also update. You can enter the Room View of the location that is equipped with Edge Box, see the detailed info under On Premise Server, and check the Edge Box status.

  • Log in to the vendor portal → Locations, search for the target location, and click on the "View" button.

  • Select "Room" and click on the View button.

  • Scroll down to find the On Premise Server section. Here, you can get the relevant info.

You can check the status of Edge Box from the Status button color.

Color Symbol

A status symbol is displayed under Edge Box button to indicate the current operational state of the Edge Box. The symbol reflects the following conditions:

Grey Symbol: The Linux Box is disabled at the location level.

Red Symbol: No heartbeat detected from the Linux Box for 24 hours.

Orange Symbol: No heartbeat detected for 2 hours.

Yellow Symbol: No heartbeat detected for 30 minutes.

Green Symbol: The Linux Box is enabled at the location level and is actively communicating with the kiosk.

Note: If the Edge Box is not set up, there will be no info, like the image below.

Replace an Edge Box

If you want to install a new Edge Box in place of a previous unit, please follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the Factory Reset button in Room View, and select the "Confirm factory restoration" button on the pop-up window. When successful (a pop-up window saying Edgebox is restoring factory settings appears), power off and remove the original Edge Box from the room.

  1. Install the new one. Power it up, and connect it to the network.

  2. Then, the Edge Box will automatically set up. About 5 to 10 minutes later, the server will update the Room View, replacing the old Edge Box’s information with the new one.

    Note: The server allows only one Edge Box per room.

Edge Box Auto Configuration via KLM/ BluTech

If the automatic configuration fails, KLM(KioSoft Logistics Manager)/BluTech APP can be used to manually send configuration data to Edge Box. Please follow the steps below to configure Edge Box or get Edge Box info via KLM/ BluTech.

  1. After logging in to the KLM/ BluTech app. Tap the Sandwich button at the top left corner and select Service.

  1. Select the "Config EdgeBox" button.

  1. Then, tap the "Scan QR Code" button to scan the QR code on the reader and configure the EdgeBox.

  1. It should display: "Send Config Command Successfully."

Get Edge Box Info

  1. After logging in to the KLM/ BluTech app. Tap the Sandwich button at the top left corner and select Service.

  1. Tap the "Get Reader Info" button.

  1. Select the "Scan QR Code" button to scan the QR code on the reader and get the EdgeBox info.

  1. Then, you can check the EdgeBox info.
