Connect and Configure Ubiquiti Access Point

Prev Next

Please follow the steps below to connect and configure the Ubiquiti Access Point.

1. Physical Connection and Power

  • Connect to Network: Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the Main/LAN port on the back of the AP.

  • Power the Device: * If using a PoE Switch: Plug the other end directly into a PoE-enabled port on your switch.

    • If using a PoE Injector: Plug the AP into the PoE port of the injector and connect the LAN port of the injector to your router or non-PoE switch.

  • Check the LED: Wait about 60 seconds. The AP's LED ring should eventually turn steady white. This indicates it is in a factory-default state and ready for adoption.

2. Access the UniFi Portal

You can adopt the device using either the web interface or the mobile app.

Option A: Using the Web Portal (Best for Detailed Config)

  1. Go to unifi.ui.com and log in with your Ubiquiti account.

  2. Select your UniFi Console (e.g., Dream Machine, Cloud Key, or self-hosted Network Application).

  3. Click on the Devices icon (the circle-and-square icon) on the left sidebar.

  4. You should see your new AP listed with a status of Click to Adopt or Pending Adoption.

Option B: Using the UniFi Network Mobile App

  1. Ensure your phone's Bluetooth is on and you are connected to the same local network.

  2. Open the UniFi Network app.

  3. The app should automatically detect a "New Device Found." Tap Adopt.

3. Adoption and Configuration

Once you click Adopt, the following happens:

  • Status Change: The status will cycle through Adopting, Provisioning, and finally Online.

  • LED Change: The LED ring on the AP will turn solid blue, signaling it is now managed by your controller.

To Configure:

  • Name the Device: Click on the AP in the device list. In the panel that opens, go to Settings and give it a name (e.g., "Living Room AP").

  • Radios: Under settings, you can adjust the Channel Width (e.g., 40MHz or 80MHz for 5GHz) and Transmit Power.

  • SSID: If you already have a Wi-Fi network set up in your Global Settings, the AP will automatically start broadcasting it.

4. Troubleshooting: "Device Not Found"

If the AP doesn't appear in the portal, check these common fixes:

  • Factory Reset: If the LED is blue or blinking, hold the reset button (near the Ethernet port) for 10 seconds until the LED flashes, then wait for it to turn steady white.

  • Layer 3 Adoption: If your controller is "in the cloud" (not on your local network), you may need to SSH into the AP and run the command:
    set-inform http://[Your-Controller-IP]:8080/inform

  • Firewall Ports: Ensure port 8080 (TCP) and 10001 (UDP) are open on your network for discovery.
