Maytag Dryers – Configuring Cycle Time, Top-Off, and Coin Value

Prev Next

Overview

Maytag dryers use a specific calculation to determine dryer time based on the configured vend price, cycle time, and coin value.

If your Maytag dryer displays a different cycle time than what is programmed in the Profile Builder (for example, 64 minutes instead of 48 minutes), the issue may be related to the dryer's internal time calculation or coin configuration.

This article explains how to configure Maytag dryer settings and troubleshoot cycle time discrepancies.

1. Configure the Dryer in Profile Builder

  1. After specifying the brand and machine model in the Machine Data

  2. Make sure to click on 'Advanced Options' to set up the cycle prices.

  3. Confirm the vend price and desired cycle duration.

2. Understanding Fixed Cycle and Top-Off

Maytag dryers support a feature called Top-Off, which allows customers to purchase additional drying time during an active cycle. This feature is controlled through the Fixed Cycle setting.

Fixed Cycle Enabled (Checked)

When Fixed Cycle is checked:

  • Partial cycles (top-off) are disabled.

  • Customers cannot purchase additional drying time during an active cycle.

  • The dryer is configured to use a fixed cycle rather than offer incremental time purchases.

Fixed Cycle Disabled (Unchecked)

When Fixed Cycle is unchecked:

  • Customers can purchase additional drying time.

  • The dryer calculates the additional time based on its programmed vend price, cycle duration, and coin settings.

  • The top-off time cannot be manually adjusted through Profile Builder.

3. Verify the Coin 1 Value

Maytag dryers use nickel-based increments ($0.05) for the Coin 1 configuration. Before calculating top-off time, verify that the Coin 1 value is configured correctly.

In Profile Builder:

  1. Locate the Misc. section.

  2. Find the Coin 1 setting.

  3. Confirm the value matches the intended coin denomination.

  4. Save the configuration and verify the dryer settings.

Coin 1 Value Example

If Coin 1 represents $0.25, the corresponding value is 5, since Maytag uses increments of $0.05.

IMPORTANT

An incorrect Coin 1 value can affect how the dryer interprets payments and calculates drying time.

4. How Maytag Calculates Top-Off Time

When top-off is enabled, Maytag dryers calculate additional drying time based on the configured vend price, cycle duration, and Coin 1 value. A dryer configured for top-off allows time to be added in increments corresponding to the minutes of drying time per Coin 1. Additional time can be accumulated up to a maximum of 99 minutes.

According to the Maytag Manual

"A dryer set to offer Top Off capability will allow time to be added to an existing dry cycle in increments equal to the number of minutes of dry time per quarter (coin 1), up to 99 minutes, regardless of the cost required to start the dryer. No credit is given for coins or debit inputs entered when the control is displaying 99 minutes."

Top-Off Calculation

The following formula illustrates how the top-off time is determined.

The top-off time is calculated according to the following equation:

Example Calculation

Below is the calculation when substituting for our vend values:

In this example, the customer is offered 5 additional minutes for $0.25.

The actual top-off time depends on the configured vend values.

Reminder

Always verify the Coin 1 value before reviewing the calculation. An incorrect coin denomination can result in unexpected drying time.

5. Troubleshooting: Dryer Displays Incorrect Cycle Time

Example: A Maytag dryer is programmed for 48 minutes in Profile Builder, but the machine displays 64 minutes when a cycle starts.

If the dryer starts successfully but displays an unexpected cycle duration, review the following settings before replacing hardware or making additional changes.

Setting

What to Check

Machine Profile

Confirm the correct Maytag model and programmed cycle time.

Vend price

Verify the configured price matches the intended dryer settings.

Fixed Cycle

Confirm if top-off should be enabled or disabled.

Coin 1 Value

Verify the denomination and nickel-based configuration.

Dryer control settings

Confirm the dryer's onboard programming matches the intended vend configuration.

Reader configuration

Confirm each reader is assigned to the correct machine number.
